The Project

The Homeschool Civics Project is a civics class project for homeschoolers, involving learning, monitoring, and reporting about their local government.

The project assumes a basic understanding of how our government was established, how it is structured, and how it ought to be run.  What our project does is help assist homeschoolers in a hands-on project to monitor and report what their local government is doing.

Monitor

Local city and county governments operate many times with little to no resistance to their policies.  These policies affect as many if not more areas of our livs than any federal or state law.  Local city and government policies can affect everything from how much sales tax we pay, to the route we must take to work.

This project is intended to encourage homeschoolers to learn hands-on what these local beauracrats are up to.  They research the decisions made at city council meetings and interpret what they really mean for the local citizen.

Share

From there, the homeschoolers are encouraged to share what they’ve learned through a blog or website t get the word out in there community.  The homeschoolers can set up a mailing list, and keep people informed of important city and county decisions.

Once the homeschooler graduates and is ready to move on, they can pass the management of the site on to a brother, sister, or other homeschooler.
